ED CHANGE- Great Resource

http://www.edchange.org/

EdChange is dedicated to diversity and equity in schools, organizations, communities, society. We act to shape schools and communities in which all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, (dis)ability, language, or religion, have equitable opportunities to achieve to their fullest and to be safe, valued, affirmed, and empowered.
We believe that too much equity, diversity, and multicultural education work is shaped to be comfortable and easily digestible. While we believe that people need some level of comfort in order to grow, in order to "inform ourselves," we also believe that true change can happen only when people, and particularly people with power, allow themselves to be vulnerable to difficult, and sometimes uncomfortable, dialogue. This dialogue is the first step toward greater change in our schools and communities.
It is our goal to help affect change in individuals, schools, communities, and society by working with people and organizations at any level of awareness or development along the diversity, cultural competence, inclusion, and equity continuum who are committed to positive change.

The Multicultural Pavilion is an internationally-recognized Web site full of resources for artists and activists dedicated to equity and social justice in schools and society. It was conceived and developed by Paul C. Gorski in 1995, making it the oldest of the on-goingEdChange projects. And in some ways, it is more of a collection than a single project. It includes:

  • the Teachers Corner, with curricular and pedagogical tools for educators at all levels;
  • the EdChange Research Room, with original articles and essays about education, diversity, equity, and social justice;
  • a collection of exercises and activities that can be adapted for classroom or workshop use;
  • access to dozens of printable lists, tools, and fact sheets related to philosophies of equity, diversity, and social justice in ourselves, our schools, and our societies;
  • the Multicultural Awareness Quiz and online and/or printable assessment of the ways in which we are mislead by the media and other sources;
  • a huge and growing collection of quips and quotations about education, equity, diversity, and social justice;
  • Multicultural Paths, a vetted guide to Web sites, categorized for easy navigation; and
  • a variety of other resources, interactive possibilities, and educational tools.

SoJust.net Document History of Social Justice and Civil RightsSoJust.net is the newest EdChange project. It is the only document history of social justice, civil rights, equity, peace, and activism to be found online. Uncover the history of anti-racism, suffrage, the gay rights movement, labor activism, and other movements through historic speeches, song lyrics, poetry, essays, and other documentary artifacts related to social justice. Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Ladson-Billings wrote that culturally relevant teachers exhibit confidence in African American students' ability to learn by maintaining high academic expectations and affirming "their cultural identity . . ." (Ladson-Billings, 1995). Culturally relevant teachers harness the power inherent to their occupation to confront institutional and systemic practices which disempower students of color. For these instructors, education becomes a liberatory exercise where classroom assignments become opportunities to teach for social justice. Additionally, culturally relevant instructors place tremendous emphasis on supporting African American students' of academic achievement (Ladson-Billings, 2006). Far from sympathetic, this support represents a sincere desire to take the necessary measures so the educational experience is germane to these students' lived experiences. Lastly, Ladson-Billings asserts that culturally relevant instructor...

SEVEN 7 components-Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE)

The Department believes that strengthening educator practice can be achieved by improving talent management systems. The Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Continuum is made up of seven components that should be used in comprehensive and systematic ways to improve the quality, quantity, and diversity of the teacher and principal workforce, and most importantly – improve student outcomes. Within the context of a comprehensive TLE system, data about educator practice and student learning obtained from evaluation systems can help inform decisions to prepare, recruit, develop, retain, and ensure equitable access to effective educators. Preparation  – Collaboration or formal partnership between LEAs and Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) or other eligible partners. Recruitment and Placement  – Activities to attract the most effective educators to LEAs and the schools that need them. Induction and Mentoring  – Individualized support for new and early career ed...
