As Awareness of the School-to-Prison Pipeline Rises, Some Schools Rethink the Role of Police

Join Amazon Prime - Listen to Over a Million Songs - Start Free Trial Now http://www.huffingtonpost.com/harold-jordan/school-to-prison-pipeline_b_6911840.html As talk of law enforcement reform continues to swirl in the aftermath of the Department of Justice's Ferguson report , some communities have quietly made progress in addressing how police interact with students. Traditionally, police stepped on school grounds to respond to emergencies, such as those involving threats or major acts of violence, or to provide security, such as at arrival and dismissal times and at special events. What's new is the growing trend of having police stationed in schools full-time. In other words, schools have become some officers' beat. And like traditional policing, many officers walk this beat armed . The consequence has been the rise of the school-to-prison pipeline, a disturbing trend where police officers get involved in routine student conflicts and disciplinary matters t

Coursmos-Micro Teaching for online Educators

Join Amazon Prime - Listen to Over a Million Songs - Start Free Trial Now Coursmos – Micro teaching for on-line educators – Micro learning for a new generation Coursmos I came across this website,  Coursmos.com , that offer Micro learning.  Yep I said micro learning. Let me explain by way of some quotes. “9/10 students on traditional online learning do not complete courses because they are too long. Coursmos are bringing education to generation distracted!”  Tech crunch have said “It’s e-learning for the Twitter generation. A sprinkling of micro-courses to go with your micro-blogs.” Micro Learning is not new.  In fact, I would regularly look up short “How to” tutorials on YouTube.  The concept of this site, is that tutorials are less than 3 minutes, and you can combine tutorials to make a short course, and you can combine courses and make a school. Set up and use of the site is rather easy. You can sign in with many of the social media profiles available. It only took me a

Is there a method to my madness?

Join Amazon Prime - Listen to Over a Million Songs - Start Free Trial Now Is there a method to my madness? Inspired by a Hangout I attended last week on hosting your courses on your own site, I have given a lot of thought as to why I am spending time promoting my courses on other sites.  So I think it is time I shared some history of my own site with you. In 2010 I launched  The Excel Club , which hosted one Excel course.  I had the site built by developers in India and I was pleased with their work.  I had the course accredited with some Accounting bodies here in Ireland for CPD and things worked very well. In 2012, I decided to go into partnership and expand the site to  The Professional Training Academy , offering a suite of courses suitable for the CPD market.  Such a lesion did I learn.  We developed the site further, however there has been a serious breakdown between us and the developers.  We cannot have any further amendments done and they will not hand over the source

Planning and Preparing an E-Course- Offered through Excel Club

Join Amazon Prime - Listen to Over a Million Songs - Start Free Trial Now Planning and preparing a new e-course I have been planning my new course now for the last two weeks and the thought occurred to me that some of you may also be planning a new or even a first course and are wondering where do you start? My first course, is a very long course. Over 7 hours of video on Excel.  If you know anything about Excel, you will know that there are so many function and formula and I tried to fit as many into one course as possible.  A comprehensive course.  I didn’t do much planning, I wrote examples, and then recorded these examples with a screen capture software.  I was then left with all of these videos, and no flow or structure, which I then had to go back and prepare.  This meant that I was left with gaps to cover the flow and material that required editing. My approach now is rather different, my approach is structured in the following way: Select a course subject Obviously t
